Tiny Stories

My parents have a strange motto.  They think life should be lived in the same manner as camping: without leaving a trace that you were there.  But I can't do that.

It's not that I think my life is especially interesting or that I have an incredibly unique story.  I just seem to have this insatiable desire to document the tiny stories that make up my universe.

They are certainly tiny.  Sometimes they pass by unnoticed, even by myself.  Sometimes my tiny stories  are only one line long and they may not even have a punch line or point.  But one thing is sure.  The days that I take the time to notice the stories, those are the days that last longer, those are the days I remember, and those are the days that are better.  The days I recognize my stories are the days that make my universe grow bigger.

So what tiny stories have recently added to my universe?

Well, on Thursday night my sister-in-law Carly spent the night at our place so she could catch a ride to work with Jon in the morning.  I was sitting in the living room eating my dinner in sweet oblivion when Jon suddenly ran to me whimpering and in need of comfort.  It turns out while Carly and him were preparing their dinner together in the kitchen, he had forgotten that it wasn't me in there with him.  As he walked around Carly to grab a fork his husbandly reflexes kicked in and gave his own sister a nice little pat on the bum.  Poor, poor Jon.  We all got a good laugh.

Take the time to notice your tiny stories.

  2. I'm glad you commented on my blog so I could find your blog. And I like this. The story, I mean it's funny, but how you said tiny stories make up your universe - that's so good and so true.

  3. When I was in high school, my teacher asked us to write about what we wanted to do in our lives. And I wrote that I just wanted to "leave my stain on the world through words." And this is exactly what I mean! Tiny stories. Exactly. I think I love you.
